It is not very accurate of Hector Minto to refer to "legacy software" such as JAWS and Dragon as if they are no longer "modern" compared with built in options. These commonly used solutions are currently up to date as they have evolved and matured over time and still have more scope in terms of function than most mainstream options. For many workplace settings that rely on computers with Microsoft Windows, specialist software provides the most powerful and effective solution for disabled users. This may not be the case for very much longer and the accessibility of mainstream technology is to be celebrated quite rightly but it is misleading to suggest that we have already reached the point where a specialist solution is purely "legacy" or to imply that users might simply want to hold on to "old fashioned" assistive software. A society with fully inclusive technology might be reached sooner if more workplaces used the most up to date operating systems and ensured that any technology including custom software is fully accessible.
