e-Access '06 attracts record audience

Events news published: Thursday 14th September 2006

Headstar's annual event on access to technology by people with disabilities, e-Access '06, was a huge success, attracting a record attendance.

BBC disability and age correspondent Peter White; Vice Chair of Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB) Kevin Carey; and Head of New Technologies at Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) Guido Gybels were among presenters at our annual conference on access to technologies by people with a disability, 'e-Access'06' (http://www.headstar-events.com/eaccess06).

Held in London on 14 September, the event was hosted by Headstar's specialist publication in this field, the market-leading E-Access Bulletin. The event focused on how digital technology is enabling people with disabilities to achieve greater independence as well as covering the barriers to accessing technology.

Technologies under the spotlight included the internet; home and workplace computers; mobile phones; and digital TV and radio. A series of breakout workshops on diverse subjects including broadcasting, banking, web accessibility and open source software allowed delegates to delve deeper into topics and engage in lively debate with a panel of experts.

The event also comprised a keynote presentation, plenary sessions, as well as an exhibition area where exhibitors demonstrated and discussed the latest accessible technologies and services.

e-Access'06, which attracted an audience of 200 delegates from public, private and voluntary sector organisations, was sponsored by Ford Motors, BT and Jadu and supported by charities RNIB and Scope.
