Headstar Joins Partnership To Research Mobile And Flexible Working.

Research news published: Wednesday 21st February 2007

Headstar is to conduct the UK's first major survey investigating whether mobile technology can provide the “missing link" in the improvement and transformation of public service delivery.

Headstar is helping the Mobile Data Association and Local Government IT in Use magazine (LGITU) to carry out the research programme which was launched last month. Work began by surveying local government officers across the UK in a bid to discover whether these technologies can help local government to deliver better services in line with current government initiatives.

The survey asked respondents what flexible working initiatives were underway at their local authority and what guidance had been provided to those participating in flexible working initiatives, among others.

This is the first study of its kind that will look at the potential for mobilising local government services. The only other complementary study has been the work undertaken by Project Nomad whose research focuses on the benefits achieved by government departments that have already adopted mobile strategies.

Since the Cabinet Office launched its Transformational Government strategy in November 2005, it has become clear that to deliver this and to achieve the target efficiency savings of 21.5 billion pounds by 2008, the adoption of ICT is essential.

Headstar is working with Local Government IT In Use magazine and the Mobile Data Association (MDA), with support from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Project Nomad. The report will be published in the Spring.
